The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has accused the Municipal Chief Executive for Birim Central, Solomon Brako Kusi, of involvement in illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as galamsey.
According to the MP, his relationship with the MCE has deteriorated as a result of these allegations. He stated that he has raised concerns multiple times over what he describes as the MCE’s continued engagement in illegal mining, but claims those warnings have not been heeded.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to combating illegal mining, emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration between government, civil society organisations, activists, and the general public.
He called on stakeholders to maintain pressure on authorities to ensure decisive action against galamsey and accountability in enforcement efforts.
“I’m determined. We need your support, your criticism, your advocacy, and your pressure. Continue to hold us accountable as we work together to win this fight,” President Mahama stated.
