Real Sociedad secured the 2025–26 Copa del Rey title after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Atlético Madrid at La Cartuja.
La Real made a dream start, scoring the fastest goal in Copa del Rey final history. A pinpoint cross from Gonçalo Guedes found Ander Barrenetxea, whose header left goalkeeper Juan Musso with no chance.
Atlético responded strongly and drew level in the 19th minute. Antoine Griezmann picked out Ademola Lookman, who fired home a precise finish past Unai Marrero to make it 1–1.
Despite Atlético gaining momentum, Real Sociedad regained the lead just before halftime. Musso was ruled to have fouled Guedes in the box, and captain Mikel Oyarzabal calmly converted the resulting penalty.
The second half saw Atlético dominate as they pushed for another equaliser. Their persistence paid off in the 83rd minute when Julián Álvarez unleashed a superb strike into the top corner, forcing the final into extra time for the third consecutive year. However, missed chances from Álex Baena and Johnny Cardoso before full time proved costly.
With neither side able to find a winner in extra time, the match was decided on penalties, where Real Sociedad held their nerve to claim their fourth Copa del Rey crown.
