Iran’s foreign minister says the Strait of Hormuz remains “completely open” to commercial shipping for the duration of the ceasefire.
However, US President Donald Trump signaled a tougher stance, saying in a post on Truth Social that the American naval blockade of Iranian ports will remain in place until a broader peace agreement is reached.
The developments come as a separate 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon takes hold. Celebrations, including fireworks, were reported in Beirut as the truce began.
The six-week conflict has had a heavy toll in Lebanon, where more than 2,000 people have been killed and around 20% of the population displaced. Israel, meanwhile, reports that two civilians and 13 soldiers have died.
