Ghana Grid Company Limited says it is working urgently to restore electricity supply nationwide after a major fire at its Akosombo substation triggered widespread outages.
The incident, which occurred in Ghana’s Eastern Region, has significantly disrupted power distribution, prompting emergency response measures and ongoing investigations into its cause.
Wisdom Kojo Adenyo, Chairman of the Senior Staff Association at GRIDCo, described the fire as a major national setback. Speaking on Bryt FM, he said engineers have been deployed to the site and are working continuously to stabilise the system and restore supply.
GRIDCo confirmed in a statement issued on April 23, 2026, that several parts of the country have been affected. The company said emergency teams were immediately dispatched and are operating շուրջ the clock to assess damage and implement urgent corrective actions.
Authorities say a full technical evaluation is underway to determine the extent of the disruption, as efforts intensify to return the national grid to normal operations as quickly as possible.
