Iran is reviewing a request from U.S. President Donald Trump to reopen negotiations, according to Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.
In a statement shared via his official Telegram account on Monday, Araqchi indicated that Tehran is assessing the proposal. Speaking to reporters during a visit to Russia, he suggested the U.S. outreach reflects Washington’s inability to achieve its strategic objectives.
“The request for negotiations comes as the United States has not met its goals,” Araqchi stated.
Meanwhile, President Trump reportedly cancelled a planned visit to Islamabad by his envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who were expected to engage in discussions aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict. Trump has since signalled that Iran could initiate contact if it is willing to return to the negotiating table.
The development points to a potential shift in diplomatic positioning, as both sides navigate mounting tensions and explore the possibility of renewed engagement.
