U.S. Navy Seizes Iranian Cargo Ship Amid Rising Tensions in Gulf Waters

President Donald Trump said Sunday that U.S. forces have taken control of an Iranian cargo ship accused of attempting to bypass a U.S.-enforced naval blockade near the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the vessel—identified as the Touska—as a nearly 900-foot-long ship that allegedly ignored repeated warnings from U.S. forces while navigating the region.

According to the president, the ship was traveling through the northern Arabian Sea toward Bandar Abbas, a major Iranian port, when it entered restricted waters without authorization. U.S. naval personnel reportedly issued multiple warnings over a six-hour period, but the crew did not comply.

Trump said the guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance ultimately disabled the vessel by firing into its engine room, forcing it to stop. U.S. Marines then boarded the ship and took it into custody.

“The crew refused to respond to repeated warnings, so our Navy acted decisively to stop the vessel,” Trump said, adding that the ship is currently under U.S. control. He also claimed the Touska is subject to U.S. Treasury sanctions due to prior alleged illegal activities.

The incident comes as the administration continues efforts to negotiate a broader agreement with Iran ahead of a looming cease-fire deadline. Trump indicated that envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to travel to Pakistan for upcoming talks, which will be led by Vice President JD Vance.

The president has maintained a firm stance in negotiations, calling on Iran to dismantle its nuclear program, transfer its enriched uranium to the United States, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping.
