A 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon has taken effect, temporarily halting clashes between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah group. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said troops will remain in their current positions in southern Lebanon during the truce, while a senior Hezbollah official cautioned that the group retains the right to respond to any violations.
US President Donald Trump indicated that diplomatic efforts are continuing, suggesting a White House meeting involving Israel and Lebanon could happen within the next two weeks. The conflict with Hezbollah has been a major obstacle in broader negotiations tied to tensions between the United States and Iran.
Trump also expressed confidence that an agreement with Tehran is within reach, adding that another round of talks could take place as soon as this weekend.
Meanwhile, US officials said American forces in the Middle East are rearming and prepared to resume military operations if negotiations with Iran break down. The United States continues to enforce a naval presence in the region.
